Historical Society Program Videos – 2023

Our first program for 2023 was presented on January 29 by University of Montevallo Associate Professor of Art, Catherine Walsh, Ph.D. Her subject was the life and work of noted Alabama College Art professor, print maker, and long-time resident of Montevallo, Mrs. Virginia Barnes, (1895 – 1984). Dr. Walsh discussed Mrs. Barnes development and influences as an artist and her specialization in various techniques for making her art, such as watercolor, screen printing, and wood cut prints. Throughout her career she was very productive and several of her nature themed series were popular locally and often seen on the walls of many a Montevallo living room in the 1950's & 1960's.
